Know About the Basics of Blackjack

The primary objective of Blackjack online is to beat the cards held by the dealer. So, the cards held by other players do not affect your winning chances in any manner.

How to Play Blackjack?

The dealer deals two cards to each player as you start any variant of the Blackjack online game. The steps to play will proceed as follows:

1. Choose a casino site that has enough variants of blackjack online games.
2. Register by inputting your basic details.
3. Choose the blackjack online game and go to the deposit page.
4. Deposit money and buy chips with any of the available payment modes.
5. Set your first bet amount.
6. The dealer deals the face-up card to all the players, including themself.

The broad rules under which you will play your Blackjack online game are as follows.

Card Values

The card values in blackjack are determined irrespective of the suit. However, the suit may play a role in certain side bets, which we will come back to later. Here is how the card values are determined:

• Cards from 2-10 all carry their respective face value.
• Cards J, Q, and K all have 10 points.
• The Aces can be considered for 1 point or 11 based on what benefits its holder.

To reiterate, your primary objective of the Blackjack online is to beat the dealer. But how do you do it? You have to reach a card total as close to twenty-one with the cards in your hand. The best-case scenario is having a blackjack or the exact total of 21 with an A (counted as 11 points) and a 10 or any other face card worth 10 points. Here, there are a few points you should know.

• If you and the dealer have the blackjack hand, the situation is called Push, and you do not win or lose your bet.
• If you or the dealer have a total of more than twenty-one right at the start of the game, you will automatically bust. A dealer bust means you win; if both of you bust, you still lose your bet.
• You can win when the dealer card total exceeds twenty one. Or you have a better hand total than the dealer, which is not over twenty one. 
• If all the players on the table bust, it is considered a dead hand and you won’t lose your hand in that case.

Basic Strategy or Player Decisions

Now coming to the most important bit, what decisions will you make, and how do you make them? Here is a brief:

Hit: It means you wish to get more cards one at a time until you stand or bust. 

Stand: It means that you feel your hand is good enough, and you would not need any more cards from the deck to improve your hand.

Double Down: Here, you will double your initial bet to get one more card from the deck.  Some blackjack online casinos might let you double down for a lesser price.

Surrender: If you feel you have got a very poor hand and have no way to improve it, you would decide to surrender right in the beginning.

Split: Some blackjack online games also allow you to split your hand into two hands if you have the same point value on your two initial cards. 

Now, the dealer does not have access to all these options like the player. After the players have made their decisions, they will play their face-down card. On a total of 17 or above, they are likely to stand. On 16 or below, they will hit and get more cards. They cannot use any of the other decision options.

However, there could be a situation of soft 17 (when the dealer has a total of 17 with the Ace card; remember we said Ace could be used both ways, 1 and 11), when the dealer can still hit to give a better advantage to the casino.

Basic Payout Rules

If the dealer wins, your bet amount gets forfeited. If the dealer busts, you get a 100% payout of your initial bet money.

When you have a blackjack while the dealer doesn’t, you get 3:2 or 1.5x your initial bet money.

Blackjack Variants Or Side Bets

We have explained the common types of Blackjack online side bets offered by most Indian casinos.

Blackjack Insurance: You can spend additional money to protect yourself against dealer’s blackjack if their first upcard is an Ace or a 10-point card.

Blackjack Perfect Pairs: In such Blackjack online variants, you can bet on having a colour pair, a mixed pair or a perfect pair in your hand and can win up to 15 times your bet.

Royal Match: The King and a Queen of the same or different suit means you have a royal match in your hand. If they happen to be from the same suit, this Blackjack side bet can pay you up to 25x your bet.

Blackjack Switch: It is side bet on a numbered pair in your hand. If you split your hand and get the respective pairs so that you have a hand full of four cards of the same number, you can win up to 40x your bet.

Double Attack Blackjack: This would involve betting on dealers busting under special situations. These could be with three cards in hand or having a 7 or 9 value card in their hand. If the dealer busts with three same-coloured 8’s, players can win up to 50x their bet.

21+3: This is probably the most interesting Blackjack online variant where players can bet on forming poker hands with the dealer’s face-up card. The maximum win is up to 100x your bet with a ‘Three of a kind’ hand.

Strategies and Tips to Play Blackjack

Surrender Rule

You will surrender on a hard 15 (a hand without an ace) with a 10 in the dealer’s hand. 

Split

You will always split 8s or Aces and not split 5’s or 10’s. 

Double Down

You should always double down a Hard 11 but not when the dealer has an Ace. Some Blackjack online casinos do not accept double down after split.

Stand and Hit

You should stand on Hard 17 or more value cards or a soft 19 or more.
